Didn't know that players who scored more in juniors have a better chance of becoming nhl ers, also the age thing.

I remember when teams focused on drafting the "coke machines" and "gritty, 3rd line centers." Good times

Haha if you need any more proof of the size thing then look no further to the Leafs first round picks Biggs & Gauthier. Safe picks my ass.

As for the trade down I have to agree. Unless they are offered over market value (which is already insanely high) AND get to upgrade a crappy contract into a solid young player they should definitely draft Puljujarvi.

If Flames took that Bobrovsky contract off of you guys, would that be worth it?
Bobrov & the #3 for Backlund & the #6?
You guys save almost 4.0 mill & get a 2nd line Corsi monster centre.

LOL I still remember when they drafted Tyler Biggs and Burke said he was a strong, big bodied forward.

Their #1 goalie and the better pick for a 2nd line center and lower pick? Tough call.

Haha yeah giving up on two high picks to grab Biggs. Good job.

I remember watching wanting the Leafs to grab Jenner at 25, Saad at 30, & Ouellet at 39. Who would have thought we could have had Gibson at 39 instead and ended up with a top 6 center, top line winger and starting goalie. Instead of you know, nothing and soon to be nothing Percy.

The Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen has received two “really good offers, aggressive offers, fair offers” for the third overall pick this week, however neither have been enough to warrant a trade.
Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports the price for the pick is likely a high-powered centre to help replace Ryan Johansen. However, Portzline adds that the salary of such a player would likely force the cash-strapped Blue Jackets to shed salary of their own.
Scott Hartnell leads the list of players the Blue Jackets could look to move to free cap space space, while Jared Boll and Fedor Tyutin could receive buyouts.

The CBJ is not looking to move Bobrovsky. Nice try to pick up a potential franchise winger and recent Vezina winner for a lesser pick and second line center.

I would be okay with that, Kopri and Forsberg are showing promise .

Well that Vezina year was 3 years ago, last 2 years have been injury riddled, which is a huge risk to absorb 3 more years of 7.425 mill cap hit. Just saying. Cap space is gotta be worth something, a top 6 centre on 2 more years of kick ass cap who is an analytics dream forward & you will also get a pretty damn good player at #6. Wouldn't be having this convo if we didn't have both Monahan & Bennett as our top 2 centres for the future. Backlund is going to be our Jordon Staal equivalent of being caught behind a couple young stud centres. But I do understand any reluctance to part with that #3.

Let me put it this way. The Flames won't get the third pick without Monahan or Bennett going back to Columbus. Columbus would want to move Hartnell in the same deal, and to make it worthwhile for Calgary includes Kerby Rychel or Sonny Milano. So, #3, Hartnell and Milano for #6 and Bennett/Monahan. Short of that Columbus will pick third, buy out Tyutin, extend jones and be on with things.

I would be completely shocked if they traded away the #3 pick... then again, I am completely shocked the Jackets have put themselves up against the cap with no players putting up 55 points in a season.

For some reason I feel like some kind of deal involving RNH for the #3 will happen. In a way it would make sense for both teams but I just think the top 3 players in this draft are going to end up being stars. Would be really hard to trade that away, especially for a team in dire need of star power.

Trading for Monahan just gives the Jackets another player they can potentially be losing to an offer sheet. Odds are Monahan signs for 6 mill +. Bennett is a non-starter in a trade for just about any player in the league.

You'll take Backlund the 6th, our 2nd and a prospect for Hartnell and the 3rd and you'll like it!!

Well the cap went up to 73 mil , we should have about 6 mil to resign Jones, so crisis averted.

Yeah, kinda took the leverage away from my original deal . I still think it's fair value, but I'd understand keeping the 3rd.

However, if the cap remains relatively flat again next year and Pulju ends up meeting all his performance bonuses you could be looking at a cap hit of nearly 4 mill. Not the worst problem to have (means he's a stud) but it's still something that the Jackets would have to take into consideration if they find themselves tight to the cap next year too.

The 3rd isn't going anywhere. Jarmo loves Puljujarvi.
